Violet Mae Harris Jackson's Obituary
Violet Mae Harris Jackson, lifelong resident of Leesburg departed this Life on May 20, 2010 at her home. Her parents William Robey Harris and Ada Lovinggood Harris preceded her in death.
She was the great granddaughter of the first pastor at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Leesburg. Family and church were a big part of her life. She sang in the choir, was past chairwoman of the Mt. Zion Community Cemetery board and over the years, served on numerous committees. The Loudoun County Commission on Women and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors recognized her with an “Outstanding Women of Achievement” award on November 12, 1988.
Over the years, “Miss Violet” worked as a housekeeper for several families including Senator and Mrs. Everett Dirksen and Senator and Mrs. Howard Baker. She also worked as a caterer throughout Loudoun County. Her expertise in the preparation and presentation of food made her a valuable resource to her daughters, her church and her friends.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul D. Jackson of Leesburg, four daughters: Joyce J. Knox of Leesburg, Sylvia J. Robinson of Leesburg, Alice J. Downing of Chino, California and Pauletta J. Harrison of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also survived by a sister, Rachel H. Bush of Leesburg; four grandchildren: Paul and Mark Robinson and Alexis and Cooper Downing; two great grandchildren Elijah and Aniya Downing and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 24th 2010 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, North Street in Leesburg with Rev. Melbourne Bailey officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Community Cemetery.
