Virginia Edna Russell's Obituary
Virginia Edna Smallwood (Wilson) Russell 77, passed through this life on June 1, 2009 at the Carilion-Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born May 19, 1932 in Roanoke, Va. to the late William S. Smallwood and Goldie E. (Conner) Smallwood. She was preceded in death by her first husband Theodore A. Wilson in 1984.
She loved her family and loved the company of others as well as living in the country. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Russell of Martinsville, formerly of Lovettsville. In addition are her 8 children, Larry Wilson and Judy of Windsor, Mo., Carol Wilson Shimel of Winchester, Dennis Wilson and companion Rosie Berdini of Pekin, Il., Robbie Wilson and companion Mary Beavers of Knoxville, Md., Barbara Wilson Rash and Ray of Clayton, De., Susan Wilson and companion Barbara Shires of Martinsville, Wendell Wilson and Susan of Pekin, Il., and Donna Hall and Kevin of Charles Town, WVa.
She is also survived by step-children Sue Bradshaw and Butch of Thurmont, Md., Mike Russell and Kathy of Lovettsville, Joseph “Petey” Russell and Sabrina of Boonesboro, Md. and Matia “Annie” Russell of Charles Town, WVa.
Virginia has 28 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren as well as 5 step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her family. She has three surviving sister-in-laws, Julia Smallwood of Martinsville, Ronie Smallwood of Tenneesee, and Jeri Lynn Smallwood of Purcellville.
She was also preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Kent, Harry and Butch Smallwood, 2 sisters, Thelma “Bootie” Harmon and Dorothy Ryder. Great grandson Logan Cundiff. Viewing services will be held at the Loudoun Chapel in Leesburg for family and friends on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 5 to 9 pm. Funeral will be Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11 am, and interment will be at the Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, VA.
