Walter Gillette Davis' Obituary
Walter Gillette Davis passed peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
Walter was born in 1933 to Thurlow and Ellen B. Davis in Trenton, NJ. Approximately one year later the family moved to North Arlington, NJ. Mr. Davis attended Queen of Peace Elementary School and North Arlington High School where he was active in baseball and football.
During the summers Walter and his 3 brothers (the late John Bradley and Thomas), stayed with their grandparents in Sharon, VT where he learned to play tennis on a grass court behind the house. He continued to play tennis throughout his life. Mr. Davis attended Georgia Tech as a co-op student and worked in Chattanooga, TN and Lodi, NJ. Upon his graduation as an Industrial Engineer, Mr. Davis began his professional career at NSA in Washington, DC and remained in this area since. Mr. Davis continued to work as a programmer in the Intel community, first with GE and then IBM where he designed and developed the first generalized database system, the Formatted File System. This system was migrated to new computer systems over a 20-year period. Mr. Davis joined PRC as a programmer and grew into executive positions and evolved into business development.
Significant achievements include the first overseas contract, largest integration contract in PRC, plus the Patent & Trademark Office 10-year automation contract. Mr. Davis next worked with a variety of small emerging companies; ISN, Digicon, CHM, Pragmatics and CyberData Technologies and excelled in growing each of these companies.
Mr. Davis has one deceased son, Douglas and leaves his beloved wife Cynthia, his brother David, daughters Cindy and April, his sons, Timothy, Christian (Patrice) and Brian (Ana); 13 Grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces and nephews, and his extended family at CyberData Technologies.
Memorial service was held at Loudoun Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 4:00 pm; Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4321 Catholic Church Rd., Petersville, MD 21758.
