Walter Todd Melusen's Obituary
Walter T. Melusen, 93, previously of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2017, at his home in Sterling, Virginia. Walt was born on October 7, 1923, in the Bronx, New York, to Frank and Marion Louise Melusen.
Walt grew up on Long Island, New York, served in the United States Navy during World War II, and then worked for the New York Telephone Company for 40 years. He married his loving wife Ruth (who pre-deceased him in 2013) on April 10, 1948. They settled down in West Islip, New York and raised four wonderful boys. Together with their boys they traveled extensively throughout the United States visiting almost every state at least once. Walt and Ruth retired to Hendersonville in 1986 where they continued to pursue their love of travel making new friends along the way. Walt also was a long-time volunteer for the United States Forest Service assisting with construction and maintenance of trails within the Pisgah National Forest. He also was a voracious reader and loved spending his spare time engaged in his life-long woodworking hobby building furniture. Walt later moved to Sterling, Virginia to be closer to family.
Walt is survived by his sons: Bruce and his wife Donna of Navarre, Florida; Scott of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Alan and his wife Meg of Berryville, Virginia; and Gary and his wife Catherine of Bristow, Virginia. Walt was also blessed with 5 grandchildren: Zachary, Madison, Brian, Drew and Trevor.
He requested that no service be held and that family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances remember him for the loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor that he was.
