Walter Henry Cable Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Walter Henry Cable, Jr., 78 of Potomac Green Retirement Community in Ashburn, Virginia, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Lansdowne, Virginia. Mr. Cable was born October 1, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Walter H. and Nellie Berry Cable, Sr.. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Serving two tours of duty in Korea. Mr. Cable worked with the R.F & P. Railroad at the Potomac yard in Alexandria, VA for 43 years before retiring in 1991. He was one of the last five men working on the Potomac yard before it’s closing. Mr. Cable was a gifted wood carver. His history of the railroad and one of his woodcarvings will be remembered for years in Alexandria’s History Museum, the Lyceum,
Mr. Cable is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Libby Jean Cable of Ashburn; two sons: Michael L. Cable of Montoursville, PA, Dennis R. Cable of Stafford, VA, three daughters: Susan J. White of Purcellville, VA, Judi A. Miller of Arlington, VA, Jean M. Castle of Fort Mill, SC; one sister; three brothers; 15 grand children; 8 great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Monday, April 20, 2009, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia.
