Wilbur Harold Smith's Obituary
Wilbur Harold Smith (Smitty), 95 years old, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Born January 31, 1927, he was the son of William Hartwell and Lucie Lee Crantz. Smitty is preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Grace Anne Kearney Smith), siblings (Pearle Williamson, W. Ellison Smith, Glenn C. Smith), son (Charles W. Smith), and nephew (Michael S. Grimesey).
Smitty is survived by a large and loving family, which he cherished with his whole heart: daughters Carol Lauffenburger (Jack), Ann Marie Jackson (Jamie), Peggy Bokulic (Jay), and Laura Penny (Billy), nephews Bob Grimesey (Carol), and John Grimesey (Debbie), and nieces Noreen Hill and Beth Grimesey.
Smitty and his wife, Anne, were married for 57 years and spent over 40 years raising their family in Springfield, Virginia, before moving to Ashburn in 2004. Smitty’s life was filled with lots of love and laughter, and revolved around his growing family of 20 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Smitty served in the US Army during World War II and then had a long career with Atlantic Research Corporation and Susquehanna Properties, Inc., in Alexandria, Virginia. Although he was successful in business, Smitty’s greatest achievements were found in his relationships with his family and close friends and especially in his quiet but consistent faith in Christ. Everything he did centered around those things.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, Virginia. Interment will be held privately in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
