Wilhelm Henry Horst's Obituary
Wilhelm “Bill” Henry Horst, 77 of Sterling, Virginia made his Transition on Thursday, September 21st, 2023.
Bill was born on Wednesday, April 3rd, 1946, in Cumberland, Virginia. He is the son of the late Wilhelm Horst and Lucy Horst.
He had an undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech University in English, a Masters in English from the University of Kentucky and worked on his doctorate at the University of Virginia.
Bill taught English in Middle School and High School. In the 80’s became a technical writer for IT Training. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he and three other partners opened a Tela Communications company in Russia called Trade Russia. The latest company he worked for was Convergent Communications in Silver Spring, Maryland.
He leaves his family to cherish his memory, including wife, Gretchen (Putnam)Horst, daughter Amy Horst, son-in-law Birger Pahl, grandson Thomas Pahl, Stepson Jeff Poole, Stepdaughter-in-law Leslie Orgill, granddaughter Isis Poole, grandson Orion Poole, sister Linda Gooding, nieces-Kathy White, Jeanie Cloninger, Theresa Evans, Julie Mitchell, grandnieces and grandnephews and a great grandnephew due in January.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday October 28, 2023, at Cascades Celebration & Corporate Event Center, located at 21453 Épicerie Plaza #200 Sterling, Virginia 20164. Please sign up on the evite, https://www.mixily.com/event/3457106561658661559
In lieu of flowers, any donations to support the service (flowers, food, etc.) can be sent via Venmo. Any excess will be donated to Virginia Tech Athletic programs.
