Will Ray McCray, of Brambleton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, quiet strength, and a life lived with purpose.
Will was born on December 6, 1946, in Jefferson, Texas, to Nathaniel McCray Sr. and Bernice Walker McCray. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was known for his courage, discipline, and unwavering sense of duty. His service remained one of the defining honors of his life.
On August 1, 1970, Will married Beverly Ann Washington, the love of his life and his partner for more than five decades. Together they built a home filled with devotion, laughter, love, and shared purpose. They welcomed one daughter, Kimberly, who was the joy of Will's life.
Beverly preceded him in death in 2024, and Will carried her memory with him every day thereafter.
Following his military service, Will built a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his reliability, integrity, and steady presence. He retired after 30 years of service, leaving behind colleagues who respected him deeply.
Will found joy in the simple pleasures that made life rich. He loved watching football and cheering passionately for the Philadelphia Eagles. A cold Coca-Cola, good music, and keeping up with the news were daily comforts he rarely went without. He also had a sweet tooth, and those who knew him well could always count on him to enjoy a treat with a smile.
Will is survived by his daughter Kimberly and her husband Anthony Forte of Brambleton, Virginia, along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish his love and guidance. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beverly, his parents Nathaniel McCray Sr. and Bernice Walker McCray, his brothers Herman, Nathaniel Jr, and Jerry McCray, and his sisters Dorothy Black and Cheryl McCray.
A service to honor Will's life will be held on January 21, 2026, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia. He will be interred at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, Virginia, with full military honors, a fitting tribute to his service and sacrifice. His memory will be cherished in our hearts forever. He will be truly missed.
