WILLIAM DAVID DONOHOE's Obituary
WILLIAM DAVID DONOHOE, a retired mechanic, equipment supervisor and life-long resident of Loudoun County, VA passed on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the age of 77 at Loudoun INOVA Hospital.
Born November 28, 1944, in Loudoun County, VA to the late Robert Edwin Donohoe and Edna Lovetta Conrad Donohoe. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Robert “Bobby” Donohoe Jr., John “Jack” Donohoe, and Dianne Rhodes.
William was a proud American, who served his country six years as a member of the United States Air Force, serving a tour in the Vietnam war. He was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC formerly known as Pope Air Force Base and honorably discharged in September 1971. William was a sharp, hardworking man who devoted countless years of dedicated service to Virginia Trap Rock Quarry, Brothers Signal Company, and his own company Donohoe Trucking before retiring in 2010.
Those who knew and loved him referred to him as Billy or Pop-Pop. In his younger days, Billy enjoyed hunting, boating, and fishing. His friends often shared stories of their trips guaranteed to make you laugh. He had a real knack for waterskiing which earned him a CB handle “Ski-Boy.” Always in hot pursuit of rare antiques and classics, he was passionate about restoring cars, trucks, and tractors. He often spent long hours tinkering in his beloved barn/shop where he passed along his knowledge and passion to his oldest grandson. Pop-Pop was happiest when surrounded by his family and grandchildren each of whom he shared a special bond with. He rarely had a serious side, he loved to spin his quick wit and sense of humor. Pop-Pop even issued “formal” driver’s license to each of his grandchildren to run his treasured golf carts on the family property. Billy built a wonderful legacy with a family subdivision that kept his loved ones nearby. He even enjoyed the companionship of the beloved family dogs.
Billy will be dearly missed by his caring wife, Virginia “Ginny” Baker Donohoe; his daughter, Heather White and husband David; his daughter Jennifer Cruz and husband Tony all from Hamilton, VA; his sister, Vicki “Sue” Cole and husband Dave, of Indianapolis, IN, and his six delightful grandchildren, Zachery and wife Samantha, Madison, Joshua, Alexander, Riley, and Samantha who will deeply miss their Pop-Pop. Billy and Ginny are blessed to have wonderful lifelong friends, Ron, and Kathy Frye of 60+ years. Ronnie along with Billy’s special niece Holly Spinks, helped the family keep vigil at his side.
The family will hold a private celebration of life including military honors in August. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hamilton Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.loudounfuneralchapel.com.
