William Robert Gill Sr's Obituary
William (Bill) Robert Gill, Sr., beloved husband of Reba L. Gill and father of Stacy L. Gill and William (Rob) R. Gill, Jr., died peacefully at Inova Loudoun Hospital with his family by his side on Friday, January 9, 2015.
Bill was born on January 1, 1948 in Hinton, West Virginia to C.W. (Skeeter) Gill and Ruth Keller Gill. Even though he left West Virginia after high school, he still considered it home and has many friends there. Bill graduated in 1967 from C&O Hospital School of Radiologic Technology in Clifton Forge, Virginia. He is a US Army Veteran and served during the Vietnam War as a Hawk missile and launcher mechanic. Bill was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 18 months working in Radiology at the US Army Hospital.
Bill returned to the Washington, DC area in 1971, working for the federal government at DC General Hospital and VA Medical Center, while attending George Mason University School of Business. Bill was Director of the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Loudoun Memorial Hospital from 1980-1990. He also worked for several years as Vice President of a medical billing company. Looking for a career change, he decided he would like to sell cars, and was very successful.
Bill was very involved in his children’s sports, scouting, and musical activities when they were growing up. He also was coach of their baseball, softball, and soccer teams. He attended the Little League school for umpires in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and was a volunteer umpire with the Lower Loudoun Little League for several years. Bill was also active in the community, was member of the Alexandria and Chantilly Jaycees Chapters, and served as Treasurer for the first Virginia Special Olympics. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, computers, and golfing. He and son Rob attended the Harvey Penick Golf Academy in Austin, Texas. He was an avid Washington Redskins and Duck Dynasty fan.
Bill had many medical challenges over the past 10 years after suffering a massive hemorrhagic stroke in 2005. He faced each challenge courageously, with the loving care and support of Reba and Stacy.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by a sister, Becky Ward of Hinton, West Virginia and a brother, Larry Gill of Richmond, Virginia.
There was a celebration of Bill’s life on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 11:30 am at Christian Fellowship Church, 21673 Beaumeade Circle, Ashburn, VA, 20147.
