William Elliott Homa's Obituary
William (Bill) Elliott Homa
Bill passed away peacefully on March 5, 2018, at the age of 54 after a heroic battle with complications from a stroke. He was the beloved husband of Terri and loving father to Kathryn, Mary, and Madelyn.
Born to John (deceased) and Dorothy Elliott Homa, Bill was delivered by his grandfather Dr. William Elliott in New Berlin, NY. He grew up in Delhi, NY, with his devoted sister Tasha, catching frogs in the creeks along banks covered in mint. He graduated in 1981 from Delaware Academy, where he played football, wrestled, ran track, and played trumpet in the band.
Following graduation from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, and Officer Candidate School at Quantico Marine Corps Base, Bill was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as a platoon commander at Camp Lejeune, NC, and Oslo, Norway, and served on the USS Nassau. He was honorably discharged in 1991 as a First Lieutenant.
After earning his Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Bill worked for several telecommunication companies, including MCI and Verizon. Prior to that he had worked on defense contracts for Booze-Allen Hamilton.
In 2003, when Bill married Terri, they made their home in Leesburg, VA, and were blessed with three lovely daughters. As a supportive husband, Bill joined Terri in the couples’ prayer group, Teams of Our Lady, where they developed many deep friendships. Bill's greatest source of joy was spending time with his family -- cooking, camping, going to the beach, traveling to educational and rustic destinations, and visiting his mother, sister and her fiancée in Utica, New York. He spent many weekends cheering for Syracuse or the Redskins. As a cigar aficionado, he often enjoyed a cigar while walking the family dog, Molly, and attending the annual CigarFest with his best friend Erich Goodnough.
Bill had a naturally laid-back disposition, and always happy to entertain and sit to have a conversation and share a laugh. Even through the tough last months of his life, he did not complain and always had a smile or thumbs up in appreciation for all who visited and cared for him. Bill will be greatly missed by his family, coworkers, and friends.
There will be a viewing at Loudoun Funeral Chapel 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA with opportunity for sharing on Monday, March 12, 5-7 pm.
