William "Bill" Marc Sprecher Sr.'s Obituary
WILLIAM “Bill” MARC SPRECHER died on Friday, March 17, 2023, in Leesburg, Virginia.
Born February 26, 1935, in The Hague, Netherlands, he is the son of the late John Marc Sprecher of Aesch, Switzerland and the late Gladys Irene Sprecher (née Vaughan) of Linn, Missouri. He is also predeceased by his brother John Sprecher of Walnut Creek, California.
Bill leaves many to cherish his memory including his loving family: wife Kari Buell Sprecher of Leesburg, VA, son W. Marc Sprecher Jr. (Traci) of North Potomac, MD, daughter C. Michele Doty (Lance) of New York, NY, stepson Thomas Buell of Herndon, VA, stepdaughters Sarah Smith (James) of Leesburg, VA and Amanda Juratovic (Pete) of Mechanicsburg, PA, sisters Connie Sprecher-Ekrem of Boulder, CO and Anne Sprecher-Core of Sacramento, CA, and sister-in-law Mickey Sprecher of Walnut Creek, CA. He was blessed with many grandchildren and step-grandchildren whom he loved dearly including Vaughan, Lawson and Blake Doty, David and Michael Smith, and Graham, Harrison and Kenyon Juratovic.
Bill served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. He was stationed overseas in St. Nazaire, France and Munich, Germany. After his active duty, he served 25 years in the United States Army Reserve.
Bill graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO and later pursued graduate studies in Applied Economics at The American University in Washington, DC. After earning his undergraduate degree, Bill answered President Kennedy’s 1961 national ‘call to public service’ and joined the United States Federal Government later that year. During his distinguished four-decade career, Bill served at the Departments of Labor, State, Justice, and Energy.
In accordance with the family wishes, funeral services will be handled privately. Bill will be interred at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA.
