William White

WILLIAM “BILL” ARTHUR WHITE, 67, a resident of Sterling, Virginia since 1975 died on Thursday September 7, 2006 at Loudoun Hospital Center in Leesburg, Virginia. Mr. White is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Nancy Jean White of Sterling, VA; two children: Jo Ann Sledjeski of Leesburg, VA, Ken White of Washington, DC; one brother: Allen White of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren: Brianna Marie, Christopher Joseph, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. White was born March 1, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Warren Allen White Sr. and the late Caroline Jane Welsh White. Bill, as he was known to friends and family, was patriotic and believed strongly in the importance of public service -- serving both his country and his community. As a young man, he served five years in the US Navy, and was proud to have participated in the quarantine of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He went on to the private sector, working with Xerox Corporation for 33 years and more recently with Marriott Corporation until his retirement, but stayed active in local affairs. He served on the Loudoun County School Board, his community homeowners association and was active in the Loudoun County Republican Party. Bill also knew how to have fun and was an accomplished singer. He was passionate about his involvement with the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America. He has been active in numerous Barbershop groups for more than twenty years, including the Prince William Sound Barbershop Quartet, the Chorus of the Old Dominion and the Bull Run Troubadours Barbershop Chorus. For Bill, even this activity had to “give back” – with the groups performing not only in national competitions, but also at local nursing homes, hospitals and community events. Friends may call at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. S.E. Leesburg, VA on Sunday September 10, 2006 from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Monday September 11th at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, located at the corner of North King and Union Streets. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park Street, SE Vienna, VA 22183-0699
