Yvonne Betsy Ferrell's Obituary
Yvonne Betsy Ferrell, affectionately known as “Flossie,” was born on March 22, 1937, and left this earthly life on September 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love. She was raised with care by her mother, Dorothy Thompson, and stepfather, Willie Thompson, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph Thompson (Skippy) and Theodore Thompson (Cupcake).
Flossie was educated at Douglass High School, where she proudly played basketball and built lifelong memories. She later worked as a nanny, nurses aide, and for the county, dedicating herself to both family and community with compassion and care.
She was the proud mother of five daughters: Sharon Ferrell, Yvette Holland (Gary), Dottie Bradley, Donna Ferrell, Sheila Ferrell and a son-in-law Gary Holland whom she loved. Her memory is cherished by 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
Flossie was most proud of her children, describing them as “very loving and giving.” She found joy in watching them grow and expressed gratitude for living to see her family flourish.
Flossie’s happiest memories included summers at Sparrows Beach and Carr’s Beach, trips to the Frederick Fair with her mother, brother Skippy, and her daughters, visits to her Philadelphia family, and birthday trips to Atlantic City. A memory that she loved to share was visiting Barbara Ann and her family when they lived in Hawaii. She especially loved her rides around town, cruises and cherished annual family vacations, dances, and any moment where she could be in the company of family and friends.
Her wisdom was simple yet profound: “Life is a ball game. But you’ve got to play it fair.” When asked about life lessons she advised: “There are so many things that are wonderful for you, but then there’s other things that you try to avoid. But sometimes you still sort of get off track.” In those moments she reminded us: “You just got to rearrange your life.”
Yvonne had a way with words. She had a poem or song for every occasion and moment of life.
Yvonne “Flossie” Betsy Ferrell’s legacy of love, resilience, and family devotion will live on through all who knew and loved her.
