Anna Catherine Briggs' Obituary
Anna Catherine Briggs, 101 of Lovettsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Golden Living Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville, Virginia.
Anna was born on Thursday, December 9, 1909 in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of the late Robert Reynolds and the late Marie Hahn Reynolds.
She was the Founder of The National Humane Education Society (NHES), which operates The Briggs Animal Adoption Center (BAAC) in Charles Town, WV, and Peace Plantation Animal Sanctuary in Walton, NY. Anna has been honored with numerous awards, including the Animal Humanitarian of the Year Award for the United States by the Animal Protective Institute of America, The Give Life Award from Living Free Animal Sanctuary for making the world a better place for animals, and as One of Loudoun County’s Outstanding Women for her accomplishments in the humane field.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Virginia A. Dungan of Lovettsville, VA, 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband the late James P. Briggs in 1945. She was also predeceased by sons, James P. Briggs, II, Robert O. Briggs and John R. Briggs, her sister, Margaret Hutchison; brothers, Jack Reynolds and George Reynolds, and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel located at 158 Catoctin Circle, SE Leesburg, Virginia 20175 with the Rev. Stuart James officiating.
Interment will be held privately at a later date.
