Barbara Ann O'Connor's Obituary
Barbara Ann O'Connor, 78, of Sterling, Virginia, departed this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Roy Clayton Marcum and the late Mary Katherine Blankenship. She was the wife of the late William J. O'Connor who predeceased her in 2012.
Formerly Barbara Wheeler of Charles Town, West Virginia, she worked for seventeen years at the Charles Town Race Track in marketing and promotions. With a love for performance, she was one of the original members of the Old Opera House Theater Company, appearing in at least thirty-five plays and musicals from 1973 to 2002.
Barbara will forever be the beloved mother to son Gregory Scott Wheeler and wife Margaret of Charles Town, West Virginia, and daughter Michelle Denise Wheeler and husband Jim Siegel of Shepherdstown, West Virginia. She has been the cherished "Mamaw" to granddaughters Jeneva McDonald of Woodbridge, Virginia, Nicole Guilfoy of Frederick, Maryland, and Michaela Siegel. Barbara's four great-grandchildren, Michael, Lily, Scarlett, and Kaiya, will also remember her fun-loving and youthful nature. Barbara is survived, too, by devoted sister Patricia K. Palmer (and husband Hampton) of Leesburg, Virginia, and brother Donald Marcum (and wife Ruthie) of Fincastle, Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 PM, Friday, August 17, 2018, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 201 East Frederick Drive, Sterling, Virginia, 20164. Interment will be held privately by the family in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Virginia, 20176.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barbara Wheeler O'Connor Scholarship Fund at the Old Opera House Theater Company, 204 North George Street, Charles Town, West Virginia, 25414.
