I first met Bert and Bob Putnam in 1964 at the American Embassy in Ta'izz (Yemen). Bob was my supervisor and Bert was our office manager. We very soon developed a excellent working relationship and a good social one as well. And that wonderful relationship contributed to a smooth-running management operation for which we were jointly responsible.

Years later when I discovered that Bert had moved to Falcons Landing, we kept in touch via the telephone and a few times in person when we would visit at her place. Most of the time, though, we would keep in touch via telephone. I would originate the calls (usually every month or so) and they would usually go on for some time.

Bert, I will miss those long telephone conversations about our adventures in Yemen and visiting you in person.

Bert, may you Rest in Peace!

Bert was a great friend and neighbor. She was the first person to greet us at our home when my husband, Bob and I moved in in 1979. We shared a lot of dinners together over the years. We also shared what we called our common yard. She loved to plant flowers, trees, and bushes so we had similar interests. Bert liked to help herself to our veggies from the garden also (she had our permission of course).

Bert was one of the most gentle and kind persons I know. I could write a book about the fun we had gardening, wallpapering, painting, trimming, you name it, we did it. She was a second grandmother to my children. We were upset when she and Bob moved away, but life goes on.

I am sure she is in Jesus' arms. We will miss you Bert. Love, Phyllis and Bob

Bert was a beautiful person to know and Im lucky to have fond memories of her. Bert and Bob were my parents neighbors back in falls church VA. When my brother Enrique and I were adopted back in 1986, she and Bob were the first people we met coming off the plane from South America. She handed my brother a set of toy cars and I recieved my first baby doll. I remember when I was little , going over to Bert's house and helping her rake leaves, running errands with her and even mowing her lawn. She would even help me with school work! She taught me how to play gin rummy and sometimes I would actually win! We use to go on walks together and she would bring a dog treat for a dog that we always passed on our way. I remember going over to feed the ducks at the National Memorial Cemetary across the street from where we lived.
Bert, I love you and miss you. Tell Bob I said hello :)
