Candace G. Brooker's Obituary
CANDACE GIROUX BROOKER, 77, of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina—formerly of Centreville, Virginia and Silver Spring, Maryland—passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on October 21, 1948, in Winchester, Massachusetts, Candace was the daughter of the late Francis and Leona Giroux. Candy graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1966. She went on to attend Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1968 with a degree in Education. Candy loved working with children and taught kindergarten, first grade, and reading in Fairfax County after being a devoted stay-at-home mother to her two children.
In June of 1968, Candy married her high school sweetheart, Alex Brooker. They raised their family in Columbia, Maryland throughout the 1980s before moving to Centreville, Virginia in 1989, where she continued to be a loving wife and mother. Candy could always be found on the baseball, softball, and soccer fields cheering on her children—her greatest joy.
Following retirement in 1996, Candy and Alex moved to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Candy loved life near the beach, cooking and entertaining, and working in the yard. She continued her commitment to faith as a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach.
Candy leaves her family to cherish her memory, including her husband of 57 years, Alex Brooker; her daughter, Allison Whitt and husband Jason, of Leesburg, Virginia; and her son, Jason Brooker and wife Emma, of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia. She is also survived by her two beloved grandchildren, Hunter and Madison, who brought her endless pride and joy.
A private funeral service will be held at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
