Cathy Lee Baer's Obituary
We sadly share the unexpected passing of Mrs. Cathy “Catherine” Lee Baer (née McVay) on December 22nd, 2024 in Purcellville, VA, at the age of 69. She was born on September 25th,1955 in Cheverly, Maryland, to the late Earl and Alverta McVay (née Kibler).
Cathy was a devoted wife, mother, and friend; her energetic personality made an impression on all who knew her. She was predeceased by first husband, Mr. Richard Sweitzer, and second husband, Mr. Michael “Mike” Baer. Cathy leaves many to share her memory, including twin daughters, Dr. Stephanie Sweitzer of Chapel Hill, NC and Ms. Samantha Sweitzer of Richmond, VA; son-in-law, Mr. Daniel Lurie of Chapel Hill, NC; and grandson, Joshua Lurie of Chapel Hill, NC. She is also survived by stepson, Mr. Michael Baer II, and stepdaughter-in-law, Jeannie Baer, both of Round Hill, VA.
Cathy will be remembered for her love of all animals (especially horses and dogs), her enjoyment of gardening and the outdoors, and her strong Christian faith. Cathy’s passing is a moment for reflection on the importance of her values: family and friends, faith, and compassion for others.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Round Hill United Methodist Church, 11 W Loudoun St., Round Hill, VA 20141, with funeral service at 11:00am; interment will follow at Goose Creek Burying Ground, 18204 Lincoln Rd., Purcellville, VA 20132.
