CHARLES WOLFGANG ARNADE
Died September 7, 2008 in Leesburg, VA. Distinguished Professor Emeritus of International Studies at the University of South Florida (USF). Born in Goerlitz, Germany in 1927, he lived in China, Switzerland and Bolivia before emigrating to the United States in 1946. He was a graduate of the Universities of Michigan and Florida, and was an active member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Arnade taught for over 50 years in Florida universities and was visiting professor and lecturer at numerous academic institutions worldwide. The Florida Historical Society and the Bolivian Academy of History honored him for his many years of historical research and writing. He also was founding president of the Pasco County (FL) NAACP Chapter, introduced Holocaust Studies at USF, and was noted for his classes on global Human Rights.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie; sons Frank, Carlos (Tony), Stephen, Tim, Peter and Christopher; daughter Jeanette Pollock; sister Jutta Gregnoli; and 13 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held later in Florida.
