Charles Laurence Meike's Obituary
Charles “Chuck” Laurence Meike
August 10, 1932 – November 27, 2025
Charles Laurence Meike, affectionately known as Chuck, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, in Largo, Florida, at the age of 93. Born on August 10, 1932 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chuck lived a life full of passion, generosity, and joy. He was the son of the late August Conrad Meike and the late Violet O’Connor.
Chuck attended Aquinas College and Michigan State, where he studied mathematics—a foundation that fueled his lifelong fascination with numbers, sports statistics, the stock market, and card games, especially poker and bridge. He was an avid reader and a devoted sports enthusiast, a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan and loyal Duke Blue Devils supporter. He loved watching and playing sports and spent many years coaching youth basketball and baseball teams, sharing his love of the game with younger generations. In his later years, Chuck played golf religiously, taking full advantage of Florida’s sunshine and any good golf day. He also loved cars. Although not mechanically inclined, Chuck was fascinated by everything about automobiles. As the son of a GM line worker, he developed a lifelong interest in all vehicles and was known for driving the newest, fanciest GM cars. For most of his life, he bought only GM vehicles—continuing that tradition until about age 89.
His sharp mind and curiosity were matched by his entrepreneurial spirit. As a management consultant, Chuck founded and successfully led three firms alongside different partners. Professionally, he will be remembered as a generous, enthusiastic, and inclusive leader who valued people and reminded everyone that life is meant to be fun.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah Dietrich; his three children, Tom Meike and wife Mara Bladergroen, Teresa Erard and her husband Mark Erard, Chris Meike and his wife Annemarie Meike; and eight cherished grandchildren: Connor and Christian Meike, CJ and Brian Meike, Bryan and Danny Durazo, and Stuart and Samantha Pliuskaitis.
Chuck was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Beverly Jane Meike, with whom he raised their three children, his second wife, Carol Bladergroen, and his brother the late Gerald Edward Meike (survived by his wife Sally Obermeyer Meike.)
Chuck’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched—with his warmth, humor, and unwavering belief that life should be enjoyed to the fullest.
