Dr. Charles Wickman's Obituary
Dr. Charles Allen Wickman, 82, of Potomac Falls, VA, passed away on Wednesday, April 1st, 2015. He was born on September 26th, 1932 in Gladstone, Michigan. He was the son of the late Theodore Agaton Wickman and the late Gladys Lynette Berg. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Glorianne Orr and his son Tod Scott Wickman. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia Faith Wickman, and his daughters Susan Jane Grubbs and her husband Jack of Potomac Falls, VA; and Elisabeth Ann Drost Radovsky and her husband Michael of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Jessica Hayley Grubbs Lough (Adam), Claire Elisabeth Grubbs, James Avery Drost (Alyson), Charles Eben Drost (Megann), Henry Harrison Drost, Madeleine Elisabeth Drost; brothers, Robert Wickman, James Wickman and Ted Wickman.
Dr. Wickman was a pastor for 44 years. He retired from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in 1998. During his career, he traveled to India with the Billy Graham Association numerous times. He was co-founder of The Center for American North Korean Understanding (CANKU) and was instrumental in the visits of President Jimmy Carter and the Rev. Billy Graham to North Korea in 1991. He had a heart for pastors and founded Pastors in Residence (PIR). In 2011, he published Pastors at Risk. He is the nephew by marriage of hymn writer John W. Peterson and wrote the responsive readings in his hymnal Great Hymns of the Faith.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pastors in Residence (www.pirministries.org) or The Village of Living Hope (www.villageoflivinghope.org).
