Dear Gloria and Maggie,
I am sending my deepest sympathies over Chris’ passing, and hope that through your sorrow, you may feel the light of God’s infinite love. My family and I will donate to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy in his honor.
The memories that I have of working with Chris during our years together at Bloomberg (he in Chicago and me in New York) are heavily infused with his trademark humor. The jokes and observations that he shared in between delivering his radio reports to us in the New York bureau always tempered the pressure-cooker newsroom atmosphere. I also remember getting sweet typed greetings from a preteen Maggie when she would hang out with Chris as he worked.
I had really only started in my broadcast career when I began working with Chris, and listening to his impeccable delivery, anchored by the even-keeled tone and breathing that he carried in his technique, educated and influenced my own delivery style.
But most of all, I remember his kindness. Chris’ decency, humility and concern for his fellow coworkers, whom he treated as friends from Day One, always came shining through. I am deeply saddened about his passing, and will always be grateful to have had Chris has a colleague and a mentor.
