Cong Huyen Ton Nu Tuy van 's Obituary
Cong Huyen Ton Nu Tuy Van, age 49, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
She was born October 20, 1970, in the city of Đà Lạt, Viet Nam, to her father Buu An and her mother Nguyen Thi Tuy. The middle child with 5 other siblings, Tuy Van graduated BA in English from the University of Da Lat before working as a Professor after her studies. She married Sung Nguyen in 1994. After moving to the United States in 1995, she went back to school to pursue American Bachelor and Master degrees in Information Management, Strayer University. After the births of her two sons Andy and Kenneth in 1999 and 2004, she chose to spend her life raising them and supporting their growth. A natural-born leader, a studious teacher, a talented musician, a wonderful singer, and above all, a pious Buddhist, Tuy Van was a prominent and leading member of the Hoa Nghiem Buddhist Youth Association leadership council, as well as a key teacher and eventually principal of the Vietnamese School hosted through the temple. Additionally, she founded the Hoa Nghiem Choir and lended her voice and other musical talents, always ready to perform and direct other members to be the best singers they could be. She was an avid practitioner of gardening and had the greenest of thumbs. A loving woman who valued family above all, her impacts can be felt far and wide, with warmth that spanned continents. Her kindness and generosity showed in her every action, especially her support and efforts in sponsoring her sister and nieces to America for a better education and a shot at the American Dream. Her compassion and love for all is felt deeply through her immediate family and the friends she cared for like her own blood.
Tuy Van is survived by her loving husband of 29 years and counting, Sung Nguyen; her mother, Nguyen Thi Tuy; 2 sons, Andy Nguyen and Kenneth Nguyen; her brother and sisters, Vinh Do, Thuy Trang, Quynh Trang, Tuy Hang, Tuy Quynh; as well as all of her extended family.
The funeral service and celebration of Tuy Van’s life will take place on Monday, March 11 at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at INOVA Fairfax for all of the care and support.
