Darlene E. Weir's Obituary
Mrs. Darlene E. Weir, 83 of Leesburg, Virginia passed away at home with her loving husband of 57 years, Charles by her side, along with her children, beloved grandchildren, and her seven-week-old great-granddaughter on Wednesday evening, September 7, 2016.
Darlene was born Thursday, May 4, 1933, in Eugene, Oregon. She was the daughter of the late Oscar M. Briggs and the late Essie Elizabeth Cruzan Briggs.
Darlene loved children and taught primary grades in Fairfax County public schools for 26 years. After retirement, she traveled the entire world with her husband visiting all seven continents. Darlene was active in Republican politics, holding offices with the Virginia Federation of Republican Women and Western Fairfax Republican Women’s Club.
She leaves her family to cherish her memory including her husband, Charles J. Weir, her four children, daughters, Sue Ellen (Stephen) Jones of Ashburn, VA, and Maureen Kay Wood of Manassas, VA; her sons, Gregory Allen (Valerie) Weir of Centreville, VA and Jeffrey Charles (Karen) Weir of Huntsville, AL; and eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 1 to 5 pm, at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 9 am at Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel, 200 Lee Avenue, Ft. Myer, VA.
Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
A brunch reception will immediately follow the interment services at the Fort Myer Officers' Club
at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in the Abrams and Chaffee Room,
214 Jackson Avenue, Fort Myer, VA 22211.
Darlene had a passion for floral design in life and her family welcomes flowers as a way to honor her memory. Flowers and arrangements followed her everywhere, from her well-kept flower gardens, fresh-cut flowers at home to the intricate arrangements she made for the public areas in her condominium. Her contributions to making this world a more beautiful place will be dearly missed.
