Derek, my prayers go out to you and yours. Everyone knew Derek in their own way. He made them feel happy and special with his generous spirit and smile. Derek Rhys was handsome, true, and with an undiminished sense of humor. I first met him in our International Relations class, when I moved to a new school senior year. He was social, boisterous, intelligent, and full of passion any time there was a chance of a debate. I then met him through a mutual friend in a more laid back setting, and we became good friends. It was nice getting to hang out with him more this past year. There's something about him I always wanted to know more of. I wish I had managed my time better with school and work so I could have come over more. Derek, I don't feel bad that I'm polite, and like that you recognized that in me. Kindness is good, manners are good, and these are things that you always appreciated. You were a great friend, a good family member, and an extremely talented musician. Most of all you were a very special person here. There won't ever be anyone exactly like you. A part of you will live in Shia and will continue for generations to come. I'll keep alive the fond memories in my heart and mind, and i'll be happy knowing that your cherished spirit lives on. I will make sure to drop off Christmas presents at your home for your daughter for years to come. Oh Derek to our moments with good friends, to our moments alone, to being honest, to playing the guitar, to singing, to laughing, and to love. You had the power to make me and many others feel special, and that's because you were a true darling and a beaming light! In the heavens you are now and until I see you again, I will miss you and think of you when I feel the sun on my back. With love and blessings, Ana Lorena Ospina.
