Derek Kenn Wilson's Obituary
DEREK KENN WILSON, 53 of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina passed on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Greenville ICU Hospital, North Carolina.
Born November 23, 1971, in Fort Dix, New Jersey, he was the son of Ken Wilson and Joyce Shook Wilson. Derek was an Army brat who lived all over the US and 6 years in Germany. He loved soccer and played on a German village soccer team for two years starting when he was 12 years old. He then played on The Patch Barracks High School soccer team where they won the European American School Championship in Vincenza, Italy. He continued to play soccer when he moved back to Oakton, VA and developed friendships with a large group who have had a special bond for 35 years.
He loved the outer Banks, NC and moved there in 2020. Purchased a small furniture store in 2021 and when he wasn’t in the store he was driving on the beaches with his two loyal friends (Chance the Pug and Athena the Lab) who brought him great joy.
Derek loved and cherished his family, friends and store employees. He loved his dogs, his house at the beach, his store, music, fishing, the ocean, NC mountains and Pea Island beaches where he spent hours with his dogs finding shells and sea glass. Derek knew hundreds of songs and the artists. His ability to remember people names and stories was phenomenal. Lastly, he loved people and life.
Derek is survived by his parents and brother, Jason Wilson and wife Nicolina. His niece Cora Wilson and nephews Jason Wilson, Jr, Mark Wilson, Natalia Conrad and many cousins.
