Diane Claire Carey's Obituary
Diane Carey, an attorney, registered nurse, and longtime resident of Front Royal, died Sunday, June 19th in hospice at Inova Hospital Loudoun. She was 68.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Claire Choiniere and Paul Rupp, she worked as a regulatory improvement consultant in the Inova Hospital system until her hospitalization. She is survived by her brother Charles L. Rupp and his wife, Louise D. Walsh, of Washington DC. Diane’s stepfather was the late Norman R. Choiniere, artist and longtime Front Royal resident.
Before moving to Front Royal in 2005, she worked in Fairfax Hospital and received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from George Mason in 1996. She worked as a trauma nurse for many years before attending Catholic University Columbus School of Law and received her law degree in 2001. A published article Diane wrote that year appears on the law school’s website: “Reprocessing and reusing single-use only medical devices: Safe medical practice or risky business?” Ever modest about her achievements, her family first discovered it after her death.
Diane adored animals, especially cats of all kinds, and crocheted small blankets for animals in Front Royal’s shelter, the Warren County Humane Society. She loved her various jobs within the Inova Hospital system, working at home until her June hospitalization. In her final days, a steady stream of friends and colleagues in health care who worked with her over decades or just recently came to visit and share favorite memories.
