Donald Apte's Obituary
MR. DONALD APTE, 77, devoted husband and father, respected businessman, and accomplished numismatist, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at his home in Leesburg, Virginia. Mr. Apte was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Albert and Molly Mermelstein Apte. He was raised in Miami Beach, Florida, graduating Miami Beach High School and the University of Florida. For 10 years, Mr. Apte was the owner of Blue Ribbon Ice Cream Company in Brooklyn, New York. After selling the company, he converted his hobby of coin-collecting to his successful business of 43 years. Mr. Apte founded Virginia Coin Investments in 1970. Mr. Apte is a past member and president of the National Capitol Optimist Club, a life member of the Professional Numismatist Guild, member of the American Numismatic Association. He resided in Mclean, Virginia for 30 years before moving to Leesburg in 1999. Mr. Apte was member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Great Falls, Virginia and an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. Although Donald was small of stature, he was large of character and heart and loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Apte is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years Alicia L. Apte of Leesburg; three children: Warren Apte, Melissa Apte, and Kristen Apte Patz (Jeffrey R.) all of Leesburg, VA; one brother: Stanley H. Apte of Miami Beach, FL and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30pm on Friday, April 24, 2009 at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE Leesburg. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 26, 2009 in Mount Nebo Cemetery, Miami, FL.
