Donaldeen M. Dunn's Obituary
Donaldeen (Dona) M. Dunn, 85, died in Alexandria, VA on July 19, 2012 after living a long wonderful life. Dona was born in Ravenswood, WV and grew up in southeast Ohio. She was the daughter of Donald and Harriet (Walter) Whetstone. Donald was the Marietta High School Band Director from 1932 to 1942. She married her soul mate, William (Bill) G. Dunn, in 1950 and set off to see the world as the wife of an Air Force Officer. After serving her country well and raising four children, she and Bill “settled down” traveling around the world spoiling their grandchildren.
Dona volunteered with Air Force Family Services and the Red Cross, was a dental assistant, a secretary for the Ohio Department of Health, and a member of the Matamoras Order of Eastern Star #261.
Dona will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Dona’s love of family, life, and travel inspired her to create and share countless beautiful quilts with friends and family. She was a colorful person and her quilts reflected her lively personality. Each quilt had a unique story and sometimes took years to develop into a masterpiece.
Dona is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill; sons William, Jr., Steve and wife Maria, Don and wife Renae, and daughter Tamie and husband Jim; 12 grandchildren (Joseph, Jeffrey, Melissa, (Jason – deceased), William III, Sean, Brian, Richard, Jennifer, Joshua, Sandrina, and Ryan); and nine great-grandchildren (Jason, Chelsea, Katelyn, Tyler, Zarah, William IV, Nevada, Julian , and one on the way), who were the light of her life.
Memorial services with reception to follow will be held on July 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Matamoras United Methodist Church, 602 3rd Avenue, New Matamoras, OH 45767. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Human Society of Ohio Valley, P. O. Box 5, Marietta, OH 45750. Memorial service and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery.
