Doris Jones McKimmey of Lucketts, VA died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 7, 2013, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 61. Born February 11, 1951, in Virginia Beach, she was the daughter of Jeanette C. Jones Read Obituary
Mrs. McKimmey was my 4th grade history teacher at Lucketts Elementary in 2007. I was very shocked when I saw her name in the registry. She was one of the best teachers I ever had and was a wonderful individual. I'll never forget the way she made me smile every day. She will be dearly missed.

What a wonderful tribute at Faith Chapel today this afternoon for Doris. It was a very moving service and I found out how special Doris was to everyone she touched. The video I watched put everything into place and I know you "CB" will always cherish the many years you and Doris had together. You have watched over Doris since her illness and now she will be watching out for you from heaven above. There is a bright star shining in the sky tonight saying she is home with the Lord. CB, Rachel and family, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I worked at her doctors office when we first met. I looked forward to her appointments so we could visit and chat. She was the highlight of my day, and I wish I could have known her better. She was beautiful in so many ways and an inspiration to me. I am praying for comfort for all the family in the days to come.

Doris, I am really going to miss you!! I still remember that awesome smile that you had when we met in 1966, when we were sophomores at LCHS. You were my best friend! We were the 2 Musketeers for the next 2 years! You were then and always have been the most special person I have ever met! You were always so good and so nice and from our classmates to the Teaching Staff and Administrative Staff she was so well liked!! And that gift stayed within her forever! She had my back and I hers! All the hours we spent talking on the phone, laughing on the phone and yeh even crying over broken hearts we thought we had! And her green bug, that took us from the bowling alley to McDonalds and back again! And she was so talented! In everything! While I was talented at nothing. She just had a knack for being good at almost everything! And she knew her direction in life without any doubts. She could always make me laugh and forget about my problems! She was my Best Friend and I hers. And I was so blessed having her in my life!! I remember when she first met CB. And I knew then that she had met 'The One'!! It was clear as day all over her face. And that was just a fact!! Life takes us down and around different paths and we lost touch at times. But when I came home and would call her or run into her -- it was like we were Sophomores again! When she met my daughter, who was very young at the time, she told her that 'she and her mom had been best friends in high school' and I felt so good when she said that!! Because we really had been! And I remember meeting her Mom and Dad and her little brother Bruce!! And it was obvious to one and all that they were a close and loving family and that they walked with God! And then her Wedding. Well I had the good fortune and Honor to be a Bridesmaid. I lived in Michigan then, but I flew back for her and CB's Wedding. And it was such a beautiful wedding and she looked absolutely beautiful! She was truly glowing! And then her beautiful daughter and handsome son came along. And never was anyone more thrilled than Doris!! And she was a wonderful Mother, a wonderful Wife and always a loving daughter and sister. And when! we were in HS she was my best friend!! And I will always be proud to be able to say tha!! And I will truly miss her! As I know CB and her son and daughter and her Mother and Bruce and so so many others will. Her smile will always stay with me and her heart which so big and held so much love will always be in my heart. Thank you Doris for being my Best Friend so many years ago! love shelbie
It is hard to find words to express the love and sympathy we feel for CB, Rachel, Aaron, Aunt Jeanette, cousin Bruce and everyone that loved Doris so very much. You all have been in our prayers constantly. I adored and idolized her as that very special, totally cool older cousin that I knew "hung the moon!" So many memories have flooded my mind this week... I treasure each and every one. The life she lived and the love she gave will never be forgotten. We are all blessed to have known her. She holds a very special place in my heart and always will!

I had the pleasure of working with Doris at Lincoln, Balls bluff and Lucketts Elementary Schools. She was a great friend, an inspiring teacher, and a devoted family person. After I retired, we would often meet in the grocery store talking about our families. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Ms. MicKimmey was my second grade teacher at Balls Bluff Elementary in 1999. She was by far my favorite teacher. I have so many amazing memories from that year and they were all because of this very special lady.
I owe you a huge thanks Ms. McKimmey because I met my soon to be husband in your class that year. Knut Jorgensen and I are getting married this June after I finish my bachelors degree at Radford University and he continues his service in the Navy. You will never know much you meant to the both of us, we talk about you very often.
