Ernest William Thomas Hickman's Obituary
ERNEST WILLIAM THOMAS HICKMAN, 89, life long resident of Lovettsville, VA died on Friday October 23, 2009 at home. Mr. Hickman was born September 11th, 1920 near Lovettsville to the late Ernest Paul and Ella Grace Ridgeway Hickman. His wife of 42 years Dorothy Virginia Mills Hickman also predeceased him during May of 1987. He graduated from Lovettsville High School and was drafted into the Army of the United States during 1942. He proudly served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Hickman was honorably discharged in 1945 and came home to Lovettsville. He married shortly after returning home and started a dairy farm that he farmed for 28 years. Following his farming career he began Hickman’s Trash Service in Lovettsville and operated it for the next 29 years before retiring in December 2004. Mr. Hickman was a member of the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church. He also volunteered with the Lovettsville Fire and Rescue, working bingo and receiving many certificates of appreciation for his dedicated service. Mr. Hickman was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a kind and generous man that delighted in sharing stories of those adventures and his memories of World War II.
Mr. Hickman is survived by his only daughter, Rhonda Dennis Hickman Barton of Lovettsville, his only granddaughter: Lisa Michelle Barton of Las Vegas, NV; special cousins: Clara and Margaret Barthel both of Berryville, VA and two special friends: Harold Weller and Alvin Blankenship both of Lovettsville.
Friends may call on Monday October 26th, 2009 at the Brown-Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 34 East Broad Way in Lovettsville from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Tuesday October 27th at the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church Road, Lovettsville, VA with Pastor Andreas Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow in Lovettsville Union Cemetery.
