Gene K. Slaughter's Obituary
Mr. Gene K. Slaughter, 87 of Lovettsville, went to be with to Lord on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia.
Gene was born Sunday, October 29, 1922 in Buckhannon, WV. He was the son of the late Arthur and Dorothy Slaughter.
Growing up in Buckhannon Gene worked for a short time in the coalmines until entering the service. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Slaughter was a hard workingman who worked several jobs to raise his family for many years. Among his many jobs, he was employed by the federal government and worked as a Service Technician on printing machinery.
He had many hobbies he enjoyed including the Beagle Club for he raised Beagles for show. He was a former member of the Ruritan Club of Sterling, VA.
Gene and his wife Barbara were dedicated volunteers with what is now known as the Lucketts Bluegrass Foundation.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ellen Farr Slaughter of Lovettsville, daughters, Debbie Childress of Harpers Ferry, WV, Sharon Cullers of Spotsylvania, VA, Pam Rourke of Maurertown, VA, Lisa Slaughter of Lovettsville, VA and Linda Cumberland of Leesburg, VA, sister, Helma Brockleman of Buckhannon, WV; 7 grand children; 15 great grand children and 1 on the way.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, where the family will receive guests from 6 to 8 pm, at Loudoun Funeral Chapel located at 158 Catoctin Circle, SE Leesburg, VA 20175.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the funeral home with the Pastor Mike Emerson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, VA.
