George Everett Thompson's Obituary
George E. Thompson, of Lucketts, VA passed on to be with our Lord on Saturday June 13, 2020.
George was a lifelong resident of Virginia, born on May 20th, 1935. George was born in the house where he grew up located in Navy, on the outskirts of Herndon, VA. An avid outdoorsman, George loved animals, farming, and all outdoor activities. After graduating from Herndon High School, he went to work for Hazelton Laboratories in Tysons Corner, VA along with his brother Richard. In the 1970s, George and Richard formed Thompson Brothers Produce and began raising local produce and meat to sell at markets in Washington, DC and Dranesville, VA. They later moved their produce stand to Great Falls, VA.
George moved from Herndon to Lucketts in the early 1980s and began farming with his 2nd wife Susie. They raised horses, sheep, pigs, and adopted orphaned animals. He was known throughout the Community as the person you could count on, if you were in need of help.
Due to failing health, George moved into Heritage Hall Senior Living, Leesburg, VA in 2018. One of the highlights of his day was when his stepdaughter Melissa, would bring his dog Buddy to visit. Buddy would ride in George’s lap, as they went and visited other residents. George will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community and fondly remembered.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Everett V. Thompson and Mildred E. Thompson of Herndon, his wife Susan F. Thompson of Lucketts, two sisters, Bernice T. Sloper of Catlett, VA and Amy E. Seymour of Manassas, VA, and his son, Frank E. Thompson of Herndon, VA. He is survived by two daughters from his first marriage, Beth A. Bleckley of Harrisonburg, VA and Susan Bruckschen of Sterling, VA, a stepdaughter Melissa Hoiles of Lucketts, VA., 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Joyce A. Loy of Edinburg, VA and one brother Richard V. Thompson and sister-in-law Linda Thompson of Ocala, FL plus numerous nieces, nephews, and his dog Buddy and mule Sox. George is fondly remembered by his family for his practical jokes and wonderful sense of humor.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a memorial service for George is being planned for later in the year. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations to be sent to Elegius Mini Equine Sanctuary, 4661 Doe Hill Rd.
