I'm so sorry for your loss. Sorry it has taken me awhile, but I wanted to send along a message. I caught Haywood's name in the Raleigh News & Observer last month. Couldn't forget that unusual name. My husband, Eric Kaplan, and I moved from the DC area to Cary, NC 20 years ago. Eric worked with Haywood at Ourisman Dodge for several years -- sometime over 20 years ago. He always spoke so highly of Haywood and I know he would have been so saddened to hear of his passing. Eric passed away himself from cancer this past February. I wanted to let you know that over the years, and still today, one of my favorite recipes, which always delights guests as well, is what I have in my recipe collection as "Haywood's Roast Beef Recipe." Haywood would bring the roast beef into the dealership on numerous occasions, and one day Haywood gave Eric the recipe so we could make it at home. Absolutely delicious! Of course, we always ate it as a sandwich with lots of mayonnaise, which I assume is the way it was served at the dealership.
I don't think we ever knew that Haywood had roots to Cary, but we have enjoyed living here these past several years. I just wanted to let you know that Haywood lives on in this delicious recipe which I have passed on to my two daughters as well.
