Jim, my father Gary McKinney, and their best friend Ken Shaffer met at the St. John's Methodist Youth group in St. Louis, Missouri in about 1950. The '3 Amigos' played basketball together, served at the church dinners, sang in the choir, and picnicked in Forest Park. They joined the National Guard together, and then did regular Army service - Gary and Ken for 2 years, and Jim for a lifetime. Jim has been a genial, thoughtful presence in our family for my whole life. He is with Gary and Ken now - three of the finest men whoever lived. Leslie McKinney.
