Janet L. Bergum's Obituary
Janet Bergum passed away on Sunday May 27, 2012 at the Johnson Center at Falcons Landing.
Janet was born on March 15, 1925, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She was a daughter of the late Lon F. Tubbs and the late Monica Louise Wermuth Tubbs. After high school she entered the Army Cadet Corp. Nursing Program. While in that program she met and married Lester Bergum on October 7, 1945, in Wichita Falls, TX. Lester was an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In succeeding years she and Lester raised three children during which time they moved to numerous locations in the U.S. and overseas. Overseas assignments included one tour in Korea, two tours in Japan and one in Turkey. Living in these diverse settings provided unique cultural and sight-seeing experiences for the family.
The Bergum family settled in Alexandria, VA from 1965 to 1996. While living in Alexandria, Janet served as an Arlington Lady and was a chairperson for many years.
Lester and Janet moved to Falcons Landing in September of 1996. Janet enjoyed painting, planting flowers, swimming, knitting and volunteer work. In 2007 the couple transferred to West Falls; sadly, Lester passed away in July of 2008.
Janet is survived by her children Candace L. Young of Alaska,Lester, Jr. of Frankfort, IN, Karen B. Lanning of Concord, OH; sister, Joan M. Hegge of Chipewa Falls, WI; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 1 pm at the Falcons Landing Memorial Chapel.
Interment services will be held privately at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Falcons Landing Benevolent Fund.
