Janie M. Horne's Obituary
On Monday morning, 10 May 2010, God called our beloved Janie to eternal peace and rest.
Janie Marie McKnight was born to the late Hager and Orrie McKnight on December 6, 1951 in Rocky Mount NC. Janie was the baby girl in a family of 9 and attended O.R. Pope Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School in Rocky Mount NC. After high school graduation Janie moved to Atlantic City, NJ where she attended nursing school. Shortly after graduation two years later, Janie married her child-hood sweetheart, Bobby R. Horne, who was living at the time in Washington, DC. She and Bob were married for 37 years.
Janie worked as a Receptionist for the United Negro College Fund in Fairfax, VA. She enjoyed her job and was a natural people person meeting everyone every morning with her famous smile and a “Happy whatever day it was’ greeting.
Janie leaves to cherish precious memories, her husband Bob, a daughter, LaTanya of Alexandria, VA; a son Bobby II of Stevenson, VA., a daughter-in-law Tolaya Horne, a sister Lorraine (Rocky Mount, NC) 4 brothers Martin (Willie) of Charlotte, NC; James (Little Bro) of Rocky Mount, NC; Marcus (Morris) of Rocky Mount, NC; and Kenny Ray also of Rocky Mount, NC; nieces Angela (Niecy); Sylvia, & Joletha, of Rocky Mount, NC; Glorious, Mary Ann. and Hattie of Baltimore, MD; nephews Ronny, LaFont, Dennis, Anthony, Norman, James Jr., and a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and associates from Rocky Mount, NC.
Friends may call on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 7-9pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE, Leesburg, VA. Funeral services will follow at 3pm on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Marks Chapel, 2355 Leggett Road, Rocky Mount, NC with Rev. Jeremiah Davis officiating. Interment will be in Marks Chapel Church Cemetery, Rocky Mount, NC.
