JENNIFER LYNN SCORE's Obituary
Jennifer Lynn “Jen” Score
December 6, 1954 - April 11, 2023
Jennifer Lynn “Jen” Score passed peacefully into the fullness of eternal life on April 11, 2023, surrounded by beloved friends. Jen was born December 6, 1954 in Ridgewood, New Jersey to Ruthanne Studebaker Score and Robert Emison Score. During her childhood, her family lived in New Jersey, Ohio, and Virginia, finally settling in Asheville, North Carolina. Growing up, Jen loved reading, horseback riding, and spending summers in the country. She enjoyed visiting family and treasured the many trips she took with her grandmother.
She earned a B.S. in Education from Western Carolina University. After college, Jen served in the United States Air Force. Her keen intelligence, vast skill set, and passion for service were evident in her long and successful career at Gammaflux L.P., and her positions in accounting and office administration with Loudoun Habitat for Humanity, Marshall Veterinary Clinic, and Kestler Financial Group, Inc. She also held various positions at Crossroads United Methodist Church since 2003. Most recently, Jen was the Office Manager at Herndon UMC and led the Audio-Visual Ministry at Crossroads UMC.
Jen came to Crossroads in its earliest days and quickly began serving in the life of the church. She was a member of several leadership teams, a leader in the First Impressions and Worship ministries, active in the church’s social justice work, and invested in the lives of many students at Crossroads. For the past five years, she was part of the writing team for the daily scriptures, prayers, and texts. When the Crossroads Uganda Mission began, Jen was one of the first to participate in the annual mission trips. She went on to passionately lead this mission with partners in Uganda, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past 20 years. This has enabled children and youth to access education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and enrichment opportunities, transforming their lives with hope, encouragement and practical resources. Jen has orchestrated the Ashburn Farm Thanksgiving Day 10k Race since 2004 in support of the Uganda Mission. Her faithfulness and dedication to this mission and to a life of service have touched thousands of lives around the world.
Jen’s love for Uganda and the Crossroads Uganda Mission led her to return each year to spend time with the students and precious friends. Anyone who traveled with Jen to Uganda knows that her days there overflowed with a joy that was visible to all. Her connections with her Ugandan friends and family through social media were part of each day. Expressions of love and affection for Jajja Jen have streamed in from Uganda across social media platforms.
Jen’s quiet strength, gentle ways, loving heart, and warm sense of humor drew people to her. Her life was a living example of Christ-like grace and compassion. She poured herself out, giving all that she was and all that she had to others in selfless service and generosity. This is her legacy.
Jen was preceded in death by her mother, father, and grandparents.
She is survived by her brothers Donald of Ashburn, VA and David of Vancouver, WA; her step-mother Lillie Maereen Score of Asheville, NC; step-sisters Leslie Blue of Virginia Beach, VA, Teresa Scognamillo of Tehachapi, CA, and Melissa Baker of Charlotte, NC; their children, Whitney Penland, Tyler Harrell, Anjolie Scognamillo, Scott Baker and Natalie Bullardand; and cherished friends, both near and far.
