The Elwell family has been a constant part of my life. Barbara's family and mine moved into our neighborhood around the same time, and she's been my best friend since I was 5-years-old. So many memories racing through my head from so many years gone by. Here are a few…
Mrs. Elwell and I have always shared a love of jewelry and sparkly things. When I was a kid, she enjoyed showing me her beautiful pieces and her impressive collection of stones and crystals - each with a story. As an adult, I knew she would always notice the jewelry I was wearing, and I would notice hers. It would be the first thing we mentioned. She knew her stones and could always identify them.
She planned a fun 10th birthday party for Barb. She took a bunch of Barb's friends to the movies to see "The Muppet Movie" and then we went out for pizza - it was a big deal to us - I'm not sure how she managed all of us.
A special memory from my brother's wedding in TN - Barbara and her mom flew out to join our family to celebrate his special day. They have always been part of our family, even though we aren't related.
Another fond memory is from my parents' 50th wedding anniversary - Mrs. Elwell, Barbara, and Karen joined us for a fabulous surprise dinner celebration.
Mrs. Elwell and I always enjoyed each other's company. We never ran out of things to talk and laugh about. If you knew her, you know she pretty much said whatever was on her mind.
Barb drove out my way with her mom and sister - we enjoyed visiting a winery near my house that her mom was particularly fond of. We sat outside on a gorgeous summer day in the country and had a wonderful time.
Always a constant, now gone, but she will remain in my heart and memories. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Elwell family, especially my dear friend Barbara.
