John Ramon Canedo's Obituary
John Ramon Canedo
June 30, 1935 – September 2, 2015
From a very young age, John was fascinated with aviation sparked with the joy of making model airplanes. He eventually learned to fly planes -- earning a pilot’s license even before he earned his driver’s license. He combined his affinity for aviation with his mechanical skills into a career of working with planes; first as a mechanic for Page Avjet in Rochester, New York, then maintaining the corporate aircraft for Gannett Company in Northern Virginia. During his career, John received many commendations, including Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year in 1992 by the General Aviation Industry Awards Program.
After he retired from Gannett in 2000, John contributed his time for The Wright Experience – building a fully authentic 1903 Wright Flyer for the 100th Anniversary of the monumental Wright Brothers’ flight. In December 2003, the entire family went to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, to witness the flight of the replica flyer, along with 35,000 other people, including President George W. Bush.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret/Peg of Ashburn, Virginia; his sons, Robert of Henrietta, New York, and Tim (Kathleen) of Oakton, Virginia; his daughter Christie (Stephen) of St. Augustine, Florida; his grandchildren, Cameron and Avery; sister Deena Ervolina of St Louis, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.
John and Peg were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Herndon for 25 years, and after a move in 2007 have attended St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn.
John loved playing and watching golf, spending time with his family, traveling with Peg on several cruises (Mediterranean, Panama Canal, Alaska, and Caribbean), and had a famous sweet tooth.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11 am at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147.
Interment will be held privately at a later date.
