John David Johnston's Obituary
John D. Johnston (64) of Leesburg, VA and formerly of Greensburg, PA passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in Falls Church, Va. He graduated from Greensburg –Salem High School in Greensburg, PA and West Virginia University with a degree in Landscape Architecture.
During his 29 year career with the Town of Leesburg, John held a variety of positions utilizing his expertise in Landscape Architecture and his passion for swimming and all sports. He was instrumental in the opening of Ida Lee Park Recreation Center, and oversaw the design and construction of the original Catoctin Skate Park, as well as the soccer and lacrosse fields at Ida Lee.
Ending his career as a Senior Planner, he was the town’s landscape and zoning ordinance expert within the Department of Plan Review.
John is the beloved husband of Anne Cole-Johnston. Brother of Gregg Johnston of Pittsburgh, PA and the late Jeff Johnston. Brother-in-law of Judy Johnston of Lebanon, PA and Frank Cole (Karen) of Chapel Hill, NC and uncle of Michael Johnston of Aspen, CO, Scott Johnston of Middletown, PA, Steve Johnston of Las Vegas, NV, and Andrea J. Morris of Virginia Beach, VA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 11am till 1:00pm at Ida Lee Park Recreation Center 60 Ida Lee Drive NW, Leesburg, VA 20176. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Loudoun County Animal Shelter or American Brain Tumor Association www.abta.org.
