June "June Bug" Regina Mays' Obituary
June “June Bug” Regina Mays, 61, of Ashburn, Virginia died suddenly on Sunday, August 4th 2013 in Ashburn. Ms. Mays was born June 17th 1952 in Lexington, VA to the late James R. and Joan Robinson Mays. She received her undergraduate degree in Physical Education from St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, NC and came home to teach at her alma mater, Lexington High School from 1974 – 1995. In 1995 she moved to Ashburn and taught at Park View High School for a few years before going on to Broad Run High School in 1998 until present. While in Ashburn she furthered her education at Shenandoah University and received her Master’s Degree. Ms. Mays was a fencing champion during college and a lover of all sports but especially football. She loved kids, was passionate about teaching and will be remembered for her heart of gold.
Ms. Mays is survived by her beloved sisters: Maxine M. Dell of Denver, CO, Dawn (David) M. Johnson of Roanoke, VA, Wendy A. Mays of Silver Spring, MD, Jamie M. Thompson (Terry) of Queen Creek, AZ; three nieces: Mara Simon, Ceierra Thompson, Jourdan Johnson; a nephew: Marshall Thompson; a great nephew: Amir Simon and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday, August 14th 2013 at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Cr. SE in Leesburg. Funeral services will follow at First Mount Olive Baptist Church, 216 Loudoun Street, SW, on Thursday, August 15th at 11:00am with Rev. Hoffman F. Brown, III officiating. On Friday, August 16th 2013 a visitation will be held from 10am until 11am at the First Baptist Church, 103 N. Main Street in Lexington, VA. Graveside services will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lexington, VA at 11:30am.
