Karl Edwin May's Obituary
KARL EDWIN MAY, 87, formerly of Ocean City, Maryland passed on Monday, December 30, 2024, in Leesburg, Virginia.
Born Thursday, April 22, 1937, he was the son of the late George Edwin May and the late Mildred McKay May.
Karl (or Ed as he was known to family) was a graduate of Loyola College, The Army Language School, The Command and General Staff College, the FBI Academy and received a Master’s Degree from Georgetown University. He served our Country for 30 years and retired as a Colonel. During those 30 years, Karl was an Airborne Ranger and Military Police and was stationed in Georgia, California, Germany, Viet Nam, Kansas, The Pentagon, and Budapest, Hungary. He was fluent in both Hungarian and German. Among the other medals he was awarded during his service was the Award of the Bronze Star Medal for Heroism with a V. This was awarded to Karl in Viet Nam when, as the Provost Marshal during Tet, he volunteered for a dangerous mission rather than sending in one of his own men.
Karl is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Santa Cavallaro May, daughters, Karla Reed and Michele Ceresa (Ray). Karl is also survived by 8 loving grandchildren: Logan Reed (Emily), Alexandra Wears, (Phil), Brendan Reed, Victoria Reed, Ryan Ceresa, Colin Ceresa, Justin Ceresa, and Gabrielle Ceresa and 4 great grandchildren, Carter Wears, Mason Wears, Charlotte Wears and Eli Elsener.
A Funeral service will be at 12:00PM on January 18, 2024 at Nativity Catholic Church located at 6400 Nativity Lane, Burke, Virginia 22015. Interment and military honors will take place on a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
