In 1987 Kathy began working as a staff assistant for the House Banking Committee, Subcommittee on Financial Institutions where she worked for Chairman Fernand St. Germain and Chairman Henry B. She also played a direct role in some two-dozen congressional hearings investigating the savings and loan debacle. From there she went to work as a program assistant at the Resolution Trust Corporation, which was established to resolve hundreds of failing savings institutions. The RTC migrated into the FDIC and so did Kathy into the Division of Supervision and Consumer Protection. She continued in various capacities in the Division of Compliance and Consumer Affairs; the Division of Supervision; Division of Risk Management Supervision; and finally the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection. She held progressively more senior positions related to budgeting, staffing, human resource management and corporate strategic planning. She achieved many honors and recognition and was currently Chief, Administrative Management Services in DCP.
Kathy’s earlier life was spent overseas with her Foreign Service parents where she lived in The Belgian Congo, Bangladesh, Belgium, Swaziland, Guinea, and Luxembourg. Kathy graduated from W&L High School in Arlington, VA and went on to graduate from Old Dominion University earning a degree in Political Science. Kathy was widely travelled, visiting her parents in Kenya, Swaziland and Burkina Faso both during and after college.
Following their marriage in Belize in 2000, Kathy and John shared a love of travel; visiting wineries in California and Virginia, skiing in Tahoe, zip lining and white water rafting in the jungles of Costa Rica and enjoying the majestic beauty of Ireland. However, the Outer Banks, where they courted, was without a doubt their favorite destination. Kathy loved life and nature - in particular her backyard wild birds.
