Kenneth Richard Cook's Obituary
K. Richard “Dick” Cook, 80, a former Senate staff aide and retired Washington representative of General Electric CO., died on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at home in Sterling, VA from circulatory problems.
He joined GE in 1978 and worked in the corporate government relations office until September 1993.
Mr. Cook was employed by the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 1977, where he was chief of staff to former U.S. Senator Gale McGee (D-Wyo). During 1976 to 1978 he served as Deputy Director of Congressional Liaison for the Department of Agriculture.
A resident of Sterling, VA, he was born in Midwest, WY and graduated from the Wyoming University.
Mr. Cook served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957 when he joined the Denver bureau of United Press.
From 1958 through 1959 he was news editor of the Powell (Wyo.) Tribune.
Mr. Cook was a former board member of the National Democratic Club and past member of the International Club.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years Arlene Cook of Sterling, VA, two daughters, Tracey Banashek of Alexandria, VA, Valerie Barney of Red Bank, NJ, and two grandchildren, Cole and Skylar Barney.
Interment will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA.
