Lawrence A. McDermott's Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) McDermott, 69, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
He was born in Chicago, IL to the late Helen and Frank McDermott. Upon graduation from Marquette High School, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Viet Nam, earning the Purple Heart. He received his Masters Degree in Land Development and Urban Planning from the University of Maryland. During his career Larry worked at the Office of Comprehensive Planning at Fairfax County, Pulte Home Development and retired as a Senior Associate in Land Development from Dewberry.
He is survived by his wife Katherine, daughter Lureta, her husband Bill Unverferth and their 3 children. Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Fran Aimone. He is survived by brothers Jerry, Bill, and John McDermott, and sisters Margaret Farrell, Mary Ellen Gelbuda, and Rita May, and many other family members and friends.
Private family graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
