Margret Ann Porter's Obituary
Margret Ann Porter, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Born Margret Ann Redwine on August 16, 1939, in Merced, CA, Margret lived a life centered on family, friendship, faith, and caring for others.
Margret was one of twelve children and was raised by her father and grandmother, experiences that helped shape her strength, independence, and compassion throughout her life.
She was first married to Ron Potter, with whom she shared three children: Michael Ray Potter (Trish), Kimberly Ann Taylor, and Kelly Lynn Potter-Penniman (Aldo). Ron preceded her in death.
On June 3, 1972, Margret married the love of her life, Larry Cecil Porter, Sr., in Fresno, CA. Together they built a loving home filled with laughter, family gatherings, and treasured traditions. Larry preceded her in death on May 26, 2025. Together they shared two children: Larry Cecil Porter, Jr. (Deb) and Margaret Kathleen Grivas (Nicole).
Margret is survived by her five children, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and friendship.
One of Margret’s proudest accomplishments was returning to school in her 40s to pursue a nursing career, joining a profession shared by many women in her family. She deeply loved nursing and patient care and took tremendous pride in serving others with compassion and dignity throughout her career.
Margret had a passion for fashion, beauty, aesthetics, and shopping, and she carried a natural sense of style and grace wherever she went. She and Larry especially loved opening their home to family and friends, most notably for their beloved annual Christmas tree-decorating party each December — a tradition filled with warmth, laughter, food, and cherished memories.
In her later years, Margret devoted herself deeply to her faith through Bible study, prayer, and daily conversations with God. Her faith brought her peace, strength, and comfort.
Above all else, Margret loved her family fiercely and treasured the lifelong friendships she built over the years. She will be remembered for her caring heart, resilience, generosity, strong spirit, and unwavering love for those around her.
Though deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited with Larry in the Kingdom of Heaven with the Lord.
