Mary Zellmann's Obituary
Mary Zellmann, 63, of Aldie, Virginia peacefully gained her heavenly wings on October 14th, 2023, surrounded by her family following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Bob, children Kate (Chris), Kelly (Dan), and Matt (Vicky), her nine grandchildren, nine brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary entered this world on May 30th, 1960, the eighth of ten children to loving parents Mary and John Flynn. She grew up in Pimmit Hills surrounded by all the love, chaos and laughter that one could only imagine within the busy home on Magarity Rd.
Mary spent her days working at her successful accounting firm, MZ Accounting LLC, for her longtime valued clients, taking long walks with her often exhausted walking partners, and helping with absolutely anything her children and grandchildren needed. Her nights were often spent trying new recipes and watching her favorite shows with her beloved husband Bob or getting together with their dear friends for one of their many adventures or a night full of laughter on the deck.
Mary will be remembered for many things including her love of exercise, travel, Rob Thomas music, her church, competitive game nights, all things Julie Andrews, the Outer Banks and a good glass of Sauvignon Blanc. But more than that, she loved a full house. She and Bob hosted weekly Sunday dinners for her family full of grandchildren, laughter and home cooked meals. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving where she hosted a crowd of family and friends with a table so long it quite literally spanned their entire house and then some. Everyone who walked through her door was treated like family and felt her warm presence.
More than anything, Mary loved her family, always putting them first - a value impressed upon her from a young age by her parents and large Irish family. She was adored by her children who were proud to call her mom and she cherished her role as “MarMar” to her grandchildren, attending every important event and often chatting multiple times a day. Even if they’d just left MarMar and Cappy's house, you could count on an excited reaction over even the smallest news from one of her grandkids.
Mary worked hard and never did anything halfway. Even through her battles with cancer, you would still see her in the office, at an aerobics class, or walking laps around the hospital unit trying to get her steps in. Her grit and strength is what helped her fight for so many years. She fought for all the amazing things she had to live for in her life.
Her absence will be felt deeply by her family and friends but the lessons and love she leaves behind will live on forever.
All are invited to attend her Celebration Service at Gateway Community Church (42350 Tall Cedars Pkwy South Riding, VA 20152) on Monday, October 23rd at 10:00 a.m. The family also invites friends and family to join them that evening at Lost Barrel Brewing (36138 Little River Turnpike Middleburg, VA 20117) from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. to celebrate her life and share their favorite stories about Mary.
