Maxine Elizabeth Phillips' Obituary
Mrs. Maxine Elizabeth Phillips of Leesburg, Virginia passed away Monday, August 1, 2022, at the home of her daughter.
She was born, May 4, 1933, to the late Maria Day and the late Louis Sanford in Hamilton, Virginia and was the oldest of four children. Maxine grew up in Hamilton and attended Loudoun County Public Schools.
Maxine Worked in Falls Church, Virginia doing Domestic Work and in later years studied Medical Training and cared for handicapped children.
In 1999, Maxine married the late Arthur Phillips, a devoted husband and friend. Her favorite past times were Shopping, putting together puzzles, caring for their home and her beautiful flower garden.
She was a loving mother to her son John "Carter" and her daughter Mary Carter. Family gatherings were of great importance to Maxine. She was best known for her delicious fried Chicken and her famous coleslaw. She was a woman of great faith and dedicated working member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Hamilton, Virginia. Maxine attended weekly bible study and served on the Worship Committee, Fellowship committee, Administrative Council, Trustees, Pastor Parish Relations Committee, and was president of the United Methodist Women for years. Her love for God was obvious and was demonstrated in her interactions with others. She was referred to as “Mama Maxine”. Helping others went beyond family. She would be willing to lend a hand to anyone.
Besides her children Maxine leaves behind a sister, Bertha (Bay) Day, Devoted daughter in-law, Lee Etta Carter, her grandchildren Paul, Paula “Princess”, Yvette, Tracey, Lori, Ebonee, and Chris; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and special family, Lisa Wallace, and her daughters.
Maxine was preceded in death by her late husband Arthur Phillips, her sister Hilda Green, Brother Leonard (Haybaby) Day, and Leroy (Bosie) Day, brothers-in-law Norman Carter, Howard Carter, and Louis Carter, as well as Judy Wallace.
Maxine was known for her kindness and spirited personality. She will be missed by the family and friends, and we thank GOD for her life.
